About us

Built on 40 years of offshore craftsmanship.

McManus Boat & RV Storage was founded by Mark McManus — the same man who built over 600 of the world’s finest performance boats and led Apache Powerboats to six offshore world championships.

The man behind it

Mark McManus — builder, innovator, craftsman.

Mark McManus was born into a family of shipbuilders. From his grandfather’s shipyard to studying architecture design and mechanical engineering, his path to becoming one of the most respected names in offshore boat building was set early.

He launched his career at Halter Marine, managing the construction of 65-foot yachts, before overseeing Cigarette Boats’ legendary 20- to 41-foot offshore models when Halter acquired them in 1977.

In 1978, Mark hand-built the first 38-foot Kevlar hull — the “Ajac Hawk” — which went on to win three World Championships for the Cigarette Racing Team. A career of boundary-pushing innovation followed.

By 1984, Mark joined forces with Don Aronow as Vice President of USA Racing Team, building high-speed catamarans for U.S. Customs. The following year, he took charge of daily operations at Apache Boats, Inc. — a role he has never stepped away from.

Apache Powerboats® — Fort Myers, FL

Legendary design. Trusted performance.

Every Apache hull is hand-built using ballistics-grade Kevlar® 49 and 100% carbon fiber, bonded with military-grade resins. The result: hulls that last over 30 years in the world’s roughest offshore conditions.

Innovation that shaped an industry

Nine firsts that changed offshore racing.

Mark didn’t follow the industry — he built it. Here are the innovations he pioneered.

Centerline steering

A McManus innovation that improves control and balance at speed — now standard in offshore racing.

Kevlar® & carbon fiber hulls

First to use Kevlar 49 and 100% carbon fiber in offshore boats for unmatched strength and durability.

Staggered engine offsets

Introduced 22″ and 18″ centerline stagger setups to increase stability and performance in rough seas.

Sit-down canopy cockpits

Pioneered the first sit-down canopy cockpits for V-bottom racing to enhance safety and control.

Pad bottom hull design

Tested and implemented pad-bottom prototypes to improve planing, speed, and handling.

Laser-cut dash panels

Developed padded dashboards with anodized, laser-engraved aluminum gauge plates.

Awlgrip engine bays

First to use Awlgrip-finished engine rooms — sleek, durable, and easy to maintain in race conditions.

Signature paint & graphics

Brought themed graphics to life with innovations like DuPont ChromaLusion flip paint.

Law enforcement designs

Built tactical hulls for U.S. Customs and global agencies — purpose-built for real-world duty.

Race-winning record

Six world titles. One world-record crossing.

Apache boats have dominated offshore racing for decades under Mark’s direction. The winning record speaks for itself — but perhaps the most remarkable feat came after the racing years.

In 2012, Mark personally restored the Apache Star — originally built as the Apache Heritage — a 47-foot hull with its original Kevlar structure still fully intact. In 2015, it set the record for the fastest crossing from Key West to Havana, Cuba.

That’s what Kevlar construction means in practice: a hull built in the 1980s, restored and record-breaking in 2015.

Why this matters for storage

The same hands that built world-record boats now look after yours.

McManus Boat & RV Storage isn’t a parking lot run by a property manager. It’s a facility operated by someone who has spent over 40 years understanding boats from the inside out — materials, mechanics, maintenance, and what it takes to keep a vessel in peak condition.

When you store with us, we notice things others miss. We catch issues before they become problems. We treat your investment the same way Mark has always treated the boats he builds: with precision, attention, and genuine care.

That’s not marketing. That’s 40 years of craftsmanship behind every boat and RV we look after.
